D-connectors
The D-connector name consits of two letters: First letter is "D", second letter A/B/C/D/E which tells the size of the connector and the number after letters tell how many pins there is in the connector. The letter "D" tries to describe the outline of the connector shell.
Examples of some common D-connectors:
- DE-15 is small 3-row 15 pin D-connector which is used as VGA monitor connector
- DA-15 is 2-row 15 pin D-connector wich is used for Apple Macintosh video and PC joystick
- DB-25 is the standard 25 pin connector used for EIA-232 and IBM parallel port
- DC-37 is used on some older IBM-XT floppy controllers for external drives
- DD-50 has three rows of 50 pins total and it has been used for Sun SCSI connections
Notes
Many documents quite often wrongly mention DB-15 connector type, but there is no such connector as DB-15. There are only DA-15 and DE-15.
DB-13W3 is the tri-coax connector used by Sun and SGI for their video. This connector has 13 normal pins and 3 coaxial connections all put to one connector shell (the size is same as DB-25).
